📝 Exam Overview: AEIS

The AEIS is an annual centralized admissions exercise conducted by Singapore’s Ministry of Education (MOE) for international students seeking admission into Primary 2 to 5 and Secondary 1 to 3 levels in the following academic year. Admission is based on the applicant’s performance in the AEIS tests and the availability of vacancies in schools.

📚 Exam Structure

Primary Level (Primary 2–5)

  • Test Subject: Mathematics
  • Format:
    • Part 1: Multiple-choice questions
    • Part 2: Short-answer and open-ended questions
  • Duration: Varies by level; for example, Primary 4/5 test comprises 35 minutes for Part 1 and 50 minutes for Part 2.
  • Note: Use of calculators is not allowed.

Secondary Level (Secondary 1–3)

  • Test Subjects: English and Mathematics
  • English Test:
    • Part 1: Writing (composition)
    • Part 2: Comprehension and language use (multiple-choice)
    • Duration: 2 hours 10 minutes
  • Mathematics Test:
    • Part 1: Multiple-choice questions
    • Part 2: Short-answer and open-ended questions
    • Duration: 30 minutes for Part 1 and 1 hour 45 minutes for Part 2
  • Note: Use of calculators is not allowed.

🏫 Registration Process

To register for the AEIS:

  1. Create an Account:
    • Access the Candidates Portal (CP) to create an account for your child.
    • Provide necessary personal particulars, including a valid email address and contact number.
    • Upon successful account creation, you’ll receive a system-generated username and instructions to set a password.
  2. Submit Online Application:
    • Log in to the CP during the application period.
    • Complete the application form and upload the required documents.
    • Pay the non-refundable application fee:
      • Primary Level: S$340
      • Secondary Level: S$630
    • Payment can be made via credit/debit card or PayNow.

📄 Required Documents

When submitting the application, prepare the following documents:

  • Child’s Birth Certificate: If not in English, provide an accurate English translation.
  • Child’s Passport Bio-data Page: Passport should be valid for at least 6 months.
  • Passport-sized Photograph: JPEG or PNG format; recommended dimensions: 410 x 514 pixels.
  • Cambridge English Qualifications (CEQ) Test Results: For primary school applicants, submit the statement of results for the relevant CEQ test taken within 12 months before the AEIS application.
  • Additional Documents: Such as marriage certificate, if applicable.

📅 Exam Schedule

The AEIS is typically conducted once a year with the following timeline:

  • Application Period: July
  • Test Dates: September
  • Release of Results: December
  • School Admission: January of the following year

For example, for the 2024 AEIS:

  • Primary Level Test: Thursday, 5 September 2024
  • Secondary Level Tests:
    • Secondary 1: Tuesday, 3 September 2024
    • Secondary 2/3: Wednesday, 4 September 2024
  • Result Release:
    • Primary 2–5 and Secondary 2–3: From 8:30 am on Wednesday, 11 December 2024 to 11:59 pm on Sunday, 15 December 2024
    • Secondary 1: From 8:30 am on Thursday, 19 December 2024 to 11:59 pm on Monday, 23 December 2024

🔁 Exam Frequency

The AEIS is held once a year. For those who miss the AEIS or are unsuccessful, the Supplementary Admissions Exercise for International Students (S-AEIS) is conducted in February or March, offering another opportunity for admission within the same academic year.
