Application Process for Hiring a Maid (Helper) in Singapore
If both FDW and employer are eligible to apply, you can proceed the following steps.
- Helper’s Basic Medical Check-Up: [In Myanmar, it costs around SGD 15]
- The helper must undergo a basic medical check-up to ensure they meet the health requirements necessary for work permit application. Better check-up at their own country as a precondition requirement.
- Pregnancy test
- HIV
- Syphilis
- Tuberculosis (TB, usually via chest X-ray)
- Malaria

- The employer must attend the “Employer Orientation Program” (EOP), which can be conducted either online or offline. The program has associated fees, which must be paid by the employer.

- Employer Applies for Work Permit:
- The employer submits a work permit application for the helper, using the following documents:
- Valid passport of the helper
- Helper’s bio data information

- Payment of Work Permit Application Fees: [SGD 35]
- The employer is responsible for paying the applicable work permit application fees.
- Work Permit Processing and Additional Documents: it depends on your application.
- Work permit processing time typically takes approximately 2 days to 3 weeks.
- In some cases, the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) may request additional documents such as:
- Child dependent pass (if applicable)
- House rental contract (if applicable)
- Security Bond and Insurance Purchase: [SGD 450]
- Before the helper arrives in Singapore, the employer must purchase a security bond and insurance for the helper. This process takes 2 to 3 days for updates at the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) side.
- Air Ticket Purchase for the Helper: [around SGD 380 – two ways YGN-SIN/SIN-YGN]
- After the security bond and insurance purchase is confirmed and once updated at MOM site, the employer buys an air ticket for the helper’s travel to Singapore.
- It is recommended that the employer ensure the return ticket is ready in case the Myanmar immigration authorities request it.
- IPA Letter:
- The helper prints out the IPA (In-Principle Approval) letter (for the helper’s copy).
- The helper then applies for the ICA form before 2 or 3 days come to Singapore. Here is a way to fill up.
- Helper’s Arrival in Singapore:
- Upon arrival in Singapore, the employer must:
- Apply for the SIP (Settling-in Program) for the helper within 7 days. [SGD 75]
- Arrange for the helper’s medical check-up as part of the SIP program. [SGD 55] (can bring FWD to MOM-authorized clinics)
- Upon arrival in Singapore, the employer must:
- Issuance of Work Permit: [SGD 35]
- The employer can issue the work permit once receive the medical check-up clear result from clinic.
- Upload medical check-up result, both parties signed declaration-form, and passport to issue card registration.
- Then choose the MOM appointment and download the notification issuance and temporary work permit letter along with the IPA letter and original passport.
- After these processes are done, MOM will send Work Permit card to your letter box.
- 6-Monthly Medical Examination (6ME)
Required every 6 months after the Work Permit is issued.
Includes:- Pregnancy test
- HIV test
- VDRL (for Syphilis)
- TB screening (X-ray required once every 2 years)
Must be done by a Singapore-registered doctor.
Employer will receive a notification letter from MOM when due.
